Started out from Rachael's apartment where we said goodbye (tear) around 8am. When I arrived at the airport, I was still feeling the negative effects of several gin an tonics courtesy of one Matthew Curtin the night before. A coffee and a bagel later, I was good to go. Mom arrived on time, and we set off from the airport with a packed car and lots to chat about. We hit our first traffic jam at exit 166 on 95 after clearing the Beltway with ease. The posted sign said "Slow between Exits 166 and 160". That 6-exit slowdown turned into a two-hour battle with drivers of various states trying to get to the beach. Traffic was heavy to Richmond but we were through and making our first stop a little after noon. We took turns reading out of our tour books about Charleston and Savannah's history, prepping ourselves for the touristy portion of the drive, all of which is in the opposite direction from Texas.
The next 18 hours or so will be spent in Wilmington with Aunt Anne and Uncle Mike having dinner, drinking wine, eating cheese, and seeing the "reason they moved to this town" - the beach.

I am happy to have read that Matthew joined you for an appropriate amount of pre departure drinks. I am sad to have missed it. The real bummer is that I was actually in Dupont Friday evening watching some crazy break dancers with Bonner and got your text after getting off the Metro up in Tenlytown. Come back. Por fa. You need to see this dance troupe. They are almost as cool as the brass band.
