School is awesome. I love my classes, I'm feeling challenged in a major way for the first time in my academic career. My professors are great. I'm sure I'll have moments when I want to jump off the tallest building I can find, but so far, I'm keeping it together.
After the debate party at LBJ on Friday the 27th, the weekend took hold in fine fashion. A group of us went out downtown Friday night. It was excellent, and I found a place in ATX that people actually dance. Good times. After flag-football practice on Saturday morning, LBJ joined forces and tailgated with a group of alums who roasted a pig and had actual bartenders. We won and a whole lot of other ranked teams lost, and Texas is ranked #5 in the country. The people here are amazing. Lots of good friends already and the environment is one I'm enjoying. This past weekend, Jared and Sarah Fisher were in town and we had an amazing time. Austin is one of those places that no one doesn't like and I'm happy to have been able to share it with them. They met and liked my friends, we had barbeque, Tex-Mex, sweet tea, bourbon, a boat cruise, went to Barton Springs, and went out downtown. Below, a ridiculous picture from our Friday night.
I do miss New England. It's October 7th and I'm sitting outside in 80 degree weather. I want it to be 73, breezy, and I want the leaves to turn red. There will be no leaves changing color here. I hear they only fall off the trees after Christmas. So I guess I really won't get to wear my fall jackets and scarves... ever. Maybe once in February. And I'm so sick of my summer clothes that I've turned into one of those annoying people who wears sweaters when it's not cold. My excuse is that it's 50 degrees in our school building. I'll still complain to anyone that will listen about how odd it is for October to be a month of 85 degree days. The art festival is this weekend and like a little kid, I've already requested a care package from my parents of pumpkins, caramel apples, and other fall things from Scituate. While I miss all of this... Austin is amazing. And I'm 100% happy that this is where I chose to be for these two years. We'll see after that..
